Artist's Description
This is a Barred Owl (Strix varia) who lives at a raptor rescue/rehab center in Killingworth, CT called "A Place Called Hope." This owl suffered injuries from a car strike that prevent her from being released back into the wild. Her expression in this portrait makes her look very wise.
About Amy Porter

I purchased my first SLR, a 1970 Nikon FTN, when I was in High School. I studied both science and art in college, and although I pursued science and technology management as a career, artwork has remained a driving passion for me. Nature photography allows me to combine a love for nature, biology, and art. I'm very fortunate to live in a rural area where I can photograph horses, gardens, and wildlife. About 19 years ago, I converted to digital, and now use a Nikon D500. All of my photographs, and any portion thereof, are copyrighted and are not in the public domain. “Pinning” any of my images to Pinterest, Facebook, or any other site is a violation of my copyright. This is close to my heart.. I go to 2 or 3 bird sanctuary's here in Florida. I try to create and image of a wounded bird with dignity.....as you have done here. Well done Amy.....well done
Amy Porter replied:
Thank you very much for your wonderful sentiments, Stuart. Your comment on the importance of treating these magnificent animals with dignity is noteworthy. When our photography club was at A Place Called Hope, we were very specifically asked not to photograph the birds when they were in a pose that might be considered less than dignified. We all tried to honor that request.
