Artist's Description

An immature male ruby-throated hummingbird hovers in place while waiting for a turn at the feeder. The immature males have a streaked throat that will turn red over their first winter. It's easy to mistake immature males for females because their coloring is so similar.

I purchased my first SLR, a 1970 Nikon FTN, when I was in High School. I studied both science and art in college, and although I pursued science and technology management as a career, artwork has remained a driving passion for me. Nature photography allows me to combine a love for nature, biology, and art. I'm very fortunate to live in a rural area where I can photograph horses, gardens, and wildlife. About 19 years ago, I converted to digital, and now use a Nikon D500.
