Artist's Description
This is a mature male ruby-throated hummingbird taking a moment to serenade the ladies. If the light were hitting his throat at a different angle, the feathers would turn from black to greenish gold to bright red.
The bright green background in this photograph is the result of the sun shining on the leaves in the background. A short depth of field blurred all the leaves together, not digital manipulation or coloring.
