Description
This is a mature male ruby-throated hummingbird taking a moment to serenade the ladies. If the light were hitting his throat at a different angle, the feathers would turn from black to greenish gold to bright red.
The bright green background in this photograph is the result of the sun shining on the leaves in the background. A short depth of field blurred all the leaves together, not digital manipulation or coloring.

Thank you for looking at my work and for making my day, Lois! What kind and wonderful comments! I have spent a lot of time sitting quietly, watching the hummingbirds, and your positive feedback is humbling. Thank goodness for digital, I could never afford so many deleted images if it were film!

Great capture Amy. I wonder why we usually don't think of hummingbirds singing.
Amy Porter replied:
Many thanks, Norman, for your wonderful comments and fave! I've met several people who didn't think about hummingbirds as song birds, but they do have a lovely chirp!
