Description

This is a male ruby-throated hummingbird ( Archilochus colubris) showing off for a female. His courtship display will also include aerial acrobatics at high speed. The ruby-throated hummingbird is the only breeding hummingbird we have in the Northeastern USA.

This photograph won first place in the "Hummingbirds You Love" contest on FAA in October 2016! It also tied for second place in the "Hummingbird Wings" contest on FAA in December 2015, as well as tying for third place in the FAA contest, "Hummingbirds - Flying to the Moon" in August 2015!
