Description
This female Eastern Bluebird (Sialia sialis) looks like she's singing for her mate, who was sitting on a nearby branch. I think she was actually trying to swallow a bug. She opened her mouth widely several times, and looked as though she was trying to swallow something big. This photograph was taken on a November day in rural Connecticut.
This photograph won first place in the FAA contest, "Celebrate," in January 2017; third place in the FAA contest, "Song Birds Singing," in April 2016; and second place in the Logo contest for the FAA group, "The Artistic Photographer" in January, 2016! This photograph also won second place out of 1070 entries in the "New Listings" contest on FAA in December 2015! Thank you to all those who voted!
