Description
This is a mature male Ruby-Throated Hummingbird (Archilochus colubris). When the sun catches his neck feathers at just the right angle, they turn from dark to a brilliant ruby color. These beautiful little birds are the only kind of hummingbird we have in Connecticut, where they arrive in late April, raise their young, and then head back South in early September.
