This is a wild hybrid hawk, a cross between a red tail and a red shouldered hawk. This bird was living in the wild in Connecticut until he was shot. Veterinary surgery saved his life, but his wounds were serious enough to prevent him from ever being able to hunt on his own. He now lives at a raptor rescue sanctuary in Killingworth, CT called "A Place Called Hope."
I purchased my first SLR, a 1970 Nikon FTN, when I was in High School. I studied both science and art in college, and although I pursued science and technology management as a career, artwork has remained a driving passion for me. Nature photography allows me to combine a love for nature, biology, and art. I'm very fortunate to live in a rural area where I can photograph horses, gardens, and wildlife. About 19 years ago, I converted to digital, and now use a Nikon D500.
