Description

This is an adult osprey (Pandion haliaetus) sitting on a nest built on a cement marker in the middle of the Connecticut River in Connecticut. Without the risk of raccoons raiding the nest, the nest did not need to be high above the water. From the deck of our boat, we were about eye-level with this beautiful bird. A 600 mm lens makes her appear to be much closer than she actually was.

Thanks so much for your lovely comment, Nancy! This nest was fairly low, so the “sky” is actually the river water and light bouncing off of the water. :-)
