Artist's Description

This is the bloom of a Thanksgiving cactus (Schlumbergera truncata). The plant looks very similar to a Christmas cactus, but blooms about a month earlier, given the same temperature and light conditions.

This photograph won first place in the contest " One Flower Close Up" on FAA in December 2016!

I purchased my first SLR, a 1970 Nikon FTN, when I was in High School. I studied both science and art in college, and although I pursued science and technology management as a career, artwork has remained a driving passion for me. Nature photography allows me to combine a love for nature, biology, and art. I'm very fortunate to live in a rural area where I can photograph horses, gardens, and wildlife.
