Description
The older female ruby throated hummingbirds can have a few red or golden feathers on their throat, but usually this is the sign of an immature male, on his way to developing his ruby-red throat. When the sun hits these feathers just right, they sparkle.

Excellent capture, Amy! Love the accentuation of the golden feathers and showing a humming bird "at rest", which I don't see very often. Very nicely done! l/f

I love the way the light hit those few feathers of gold. Amazing!
Amy Porter replied:
Thanks, Stuart! This was definitely a lucky catch, as the gold spot flashes only momentarily! :-)
