Description
This white tailed deer fawn (Odocoileus virginianus) could not control the curious urge to check out a wild Tom turkey (Meleagris gallopavo). I have seen young fawns trying to play with turkeys, but the turkeys usually aren't interested. In this case, the two calmly touched noses and stayed close to one another for several minutes before going their separate ways.
This photograph won first place in the “Two Species” contest on FAA in August 2019. Many thanks to all those who voted!

What a great shot Amy and they are not afraid ot each other!! l/f
Amy Porter replied:
Thanks very much, Ruth for your wonderful comments, like, and fave! The male turkeys are pretty calm this time of year (August), and apparently don't see a curious fawn is a threat. Otherwise, I think the fawn would be wise to be afraid of the Tom!
