Artist's Description

In profile, this Barred Owl (Strix varia) looks to be deep in thought. We've had a pair of these beautiful birds living in the woods behind our house in Connecticut for many years. One of the best evening sounds we hear is that of the owls calling back and fourth to one another. The owl in this photograph is a resident of a wonderful raptor rescue center in Killingworth, CT called "A Place Called Hope." Sadly, she suffered injuries that prevent her from being released back into the wild.
