Thanks so much, Patricia. The background actually needed no changes from me. Cody was standing in front of an open stall door, so the light from the outside backlit his mane to create the softness. :-)

I purchased my first SLR, a 1970 Nikon FTN, when I was in High School. I studied both science and art in college, and although I pursued science and technology management as a career, artwork has remained a driving passion for me. Nature photography allows me to combine a love for nature, biology, and art. I'm very fortunate to live in a rural area where I can photograph horses, gardens, and wildlife. About 19 years ago, I converted to digital, and now use a Nikon D500.
