Description
I wanted to call this photograph "A Peeper's Peeper," but this is a Grey Tree Frog (Hyla versicolor), not a peeper. While still small, these tree frogs are quite a bit larger than the little peepers. Both tree frogs and peepers are known for playing a part in the chorus of sound that fills the country air each evening in the warmer months.
Grey tree frogs are able to use camouflage colors ranging from grey to green to blend in with their surroundings. The males have a darker throat, while the females have a lighter throat. At the time of this photograph, this female was "perched" on a post on our porch, assuming a pale grey color to blend in with the post.
