We have a small colony of Tree Swallows (Tachycineta bicolor) on our farm in Connecticut. Each Spring several pair begin nest building, which seems to involve a lot of swooping and chattering around the cluster of bird houses. Part of their routine includes vocalizations that to a human may look like yelling, but in fact, seem to be part of their socializing ritual. When the sun hits the Tree Swallows' feathers just right, the light reflects back in a shiny aqua color.
I purchased my first SLR, a 1970 Nikon FTN, when I was in High School. I studied both science and art in college, and although I pursued science and technology management as a career, artwork has remained a driving passion for me. Nature photography allows me to combine a love for nature, biology, and art. I'm very fortunate to live in a rural area where I can photograph horses, gardens, and wildlife. About 19 years ago, I converted to digital, and now use a Nikon D500.
